| LCHS wrapped up their regular season last night Posted on October 29, 2005 SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. ? The Lawrence County Wildcats (5-5, 2-5) wrapped up their regular season on Friday night with a game against the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles (1-9, 1-6) falling to the Eagles 21-7. Shelbyville moved the ball down the field on their opening drive of the ballgame, but came away with only an Aram Cortes field goal as the Wildcat defense stiffened deep in their own territory. From there the game developed into a battle of field position, with Shelbyville dominating that aspect of the game. In the second quarter, the Eagles pinned Lawrence County inside the Wildcat one yard-line, and on the first play of the Lawrence County drive, Adam Birdsong was hit in the end zone for the safety, giving Shelbyville the 5-0 lead. Later in the frame, Eagle quarterback Julian Haile connected with Cory Dukes for a 53 yard touchdown, and after the two point conversion, the lead was stretched to 13-0, and that?s how the first half would end. Jeffrey Chambers broke a 58 yard run in the third quarter to cut the lead to 13-7, and the Wildcat defense seemed to be in position to get their offense the ball back on the following possession, when Haile connected on a third and 13 play to pick up the first down. On the drive, the Eagles sealed the victory with a 5 yard touchdown pass from Haile to Taurian Darden. The two-point conversion failed, but as Lawrence County attempted desperately to get the ball out of the shadow of their own goalpost late in the game, Hunter Mansfield was sacked for the second safety of the night, providing Shelbyville with the final margin of 21-7. The Wildcats finish the regular season at the .500 mark, and have earned a bid to the Crockett Bowl on Thursday, November 3 at Hendrix-Staggs Stadium in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The opponent is still yet to be determined, but kickoff will be at 7:00. |
