Posted on December 31, 2005

LAWRENCEBURG ? A former statewide beauty pageant winner was arrested by sheriff?s deputies for drug possession, according to police reports.

Molly Brown, 38, named Miss Tennessee USA in 1987, was arrested and jailed for allegedly possessing 279 miscellaneous pills, a police report said. She was charged by deputies around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of six legend drugs, public intoxication, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.

A legend drug means any medication required by state law or regulation of the state board of pharmacy to be dispensed on prescription only or is restricted to use by practitioners only.

According to police, the Lawrenceburg resident was sitting in her car in a parking lot on Busby Road when officers spotted her.

Police reports said Brown allegedly had two glass containers of medications, 11 snap-top bottles and prescription drugs mixed in different bottles. Deputies said Brown was ?unsteady on her feet,? her speech was slurred and she was disoriented.

Police said Brown gave them permission to search her car, but when they told her she was under arrest, she began fighting deputies and Lawrenceburg police officers.

She was released from custody after posting a $5,250 bond.

Brown won the Miss Tennessee Teen USA title in 1984 and the Miss Tennessee USA crown in 1987. She was second runner-up in the Miss Teen USA pageant in 1984.

A sheriff?s department spokesperson said a family member objected to a radio news report of the arrest because it failed to specify Brown was moving personal items to a new address.
