Voices were raised and tempers flared at a meeting at city hall last night
Posted on January 27, 2006

Voices were raised and tempers flared at a meeting at city hall last night concerning the demolition of Allumni Memorial Field. Commissioners wanted to know why they weren’t informed about a contract drawn up with the school board that traded an easement for flood control and led to the demolition of the bleachers at the field that many consider a local landmark. City administrator Terrell Sellers produced a document at last night’s project, appeared before the commission and said the stadium would be impacted.
That claim was quickly challenged and commissioners including Keith Durham who wanted to know that even if Baxter appeared before the commission why was their no mention of a contract that had been drawn months earlier that specifically called for tearing down the stadium.
