TDOT Has Busy Schedule in Lawrence County, $39 Million Under Contract
Posted on January 30, 2006
The Tennessee Dept. of Transportation currently has five construction projects
for which contracts have been awarded in Lawrence County totaling almost $39
million. Another seven projects are in various stages of development, five
involving Highway 64 and the 64 by-pass around Lawrenceburg.
The Highway 64 projects currently under construction or due to begin soon are
the 3.6 miles under four-lane construction from Natchez Trace Parkway to State
Route 240 (the Turnpike) and the 3.8 miles from west of Robertson Road to
Stribling Road. Vaughn Contractors was awarded both projects totaling $17.8
million and they?re expected to be completed in Nov. 2006 and July 2007,
respectively.
The long-awaited widening of Highway 43 in Lawrenceburg from Fourth Street to
Columbia Avenue was awarded to Civil Constructors over a year ago for $7.8
million. The project has reportedly been delayed by the presence of asbestos in
some of the buildings that needed to be removed for the project.
Finally, the 5.07 miles on Highway 43 between the St. Joseph north city limits
and the Alabama state line is under construction by the Rogers Group at a cost
of $12.6 million with a Nov. 2007 completion date. There is also a bridge
replacement project over the West Fork of the Buffalo River on the Buffalo
Road.
The by-pass around the south side of Lawrenceburg will be built in two phases
with the 5.9 miles between Highway 43 to the Sandusky/West Side Road scheduled
for contract letting this spring. On the west side of the project from west of
Lawrenceburg to Highway 43 south of Lawrenceburg is 5.3 miles and is under
right-of-way acquisition.
