Maury Regional Hospital To Fight State Over
Posted on March 21, 2006

SPRING HILL ? CEO Robert Otwell announced Monday Maury Regional Hospital officials are ?adamantly opposed? to an application for a certificate of need by TriStar Health System to construct a $112 million, 56-bed hospital in northern Maury County.

TriStar Health System announced Monday plans to apply for the CON with the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency in early April, followed by a 90-day review, public hearing and vote.

?Maury Regional Hospital is adamantly opposed to this project and believes that the justification for a new hospital less than 15 miles from Maury Regional Hospital and Williamson Medical Center is not justified,? Otwell said in a press release from the hospital. ?The CON program is designed to ensure cost-effective, high-quality and accessible health care and to limit unnecessary duplication of services.?

At a Maury County Commission meeting Monday, Otwell said Maury Regional officials will present ?strong opposition? to the project.

?We?re disappointed we were not asked to participate in the plans for Spring Hill,? he said.
