Nineteen Year Old From Loretto Will Become Youngest Commissioner Ever In County
Posted on April 07, 2006
Chris D. Jackson will become the new County Commissioner in the Second
District in Loretto starting in 2007. Jackson won his race Thursday when
the filing deadline came and passed without an opponent turning in their
papers to run against him in the August election.
Jackson, 19, will become the youngest person ever elected to public office
in Lawrence County. He is the Vice Chairman of the Lawrence County
Democratic Party and a student at the University of North Alabama where he
is majoring in political science and government.
Jackson said of his win, “I look forward to working for the people of the
second district and the county as a whole starting next year. Our county is
crying out for new leadership and new ideas and I believe that is what I
bring to the table. I fully recognize things will not just happen
overnight. It will be hard work. But I say lets start. We owe it to
future generations to get this thing right. I am confident that the rest of
the leadership of Lawrence County agrees with that notion and will join me
as we move our county forward.”
Jackson is the son of Roger and Judy Jackson of Loretto.
