| Loretto Psychiatrist, Two Others Killed In Three Car Wreck in Killen Posted on April 22, 2006 GREENHILL — Three people were killed and two injured in a three-car wreck Friday evening on U.S. 43, officials said. The wreck happened at the U.S. 43-Alabama 64 intersection, north of Killen around 5:30 p.m. Lauderdale County Coroner Myron Crunk identified the fatalities as Quincy O’Neal Hill, 85, Lauderdale 38, Florence, in the Greenhill community; David Joseph Arcese, 55, Pompano Beach, Fla.; and Dr. Glenna Jones, 69, 49 Fox Ridge Drive, Loretto, Tenn., who was a Lawrence County, Tenn. psychiatrist. Reports indicate Hill was a passenger in a 2003 Chevorlet van driven by Arcese. Emergency personnel at the scene said the two were related by marriage. Jones, was a passenger in a 1995 Chevorlet pickup that was driven by 15-year-old Marty Ferguson, of Loretto. Ferguson and his father, 51-year-old Steve Ferguson, who was a passenger in the backseat of the truck, were injured. They were taken to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were unavailable late Friday. Crunk pronounced the three fatalities dead at the scene. A 1984 Chevorlet Monte Carlo was also reportedly involved in the wreck, but the driver was not injured and his name was unavailable. Officials at the scene said the van was traveling south on U.S. 43, while the Monte Carlo was going west, attempting to cross U.S. 43 on Alabama 64. Witnesses at the scene said it appeared the Monte Carlo struck the van causing it to swerve into the northbound lane and colliding with the Chevrolet truck, which was traveling north. The collision occurred about 200 feet south of the U.S. 43-Alabama 64 intersection. The van was struck in the front and driver’s side door, then ran off the roadway, down an embankment about 60 feet from the roadway. The pickup came to rest across the northbound turning lane. Emergency personnel with the Greenhill Volunteer Fire Department had to extricate two of the people from the pickup. The fatalities bring the total to 21 in northwest Alabama and the southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence counties this year. They bring the total to six for the month of April. The accident is under investigation by the Alabama Department of Public Safety’s Quad-Cities State Troopers Post. By Tom Smith, Times Daily |
