The 30th Anniversary production of The Gentleman from the Cane will be
performed at the historic Crockett Theater in downtown Lawrenceburg, TN, the
first two weekends of August 2006. Gentleman is a musical drama depicting the
life of David Crockett in Lawrence County, TN, from 1817-1822.
Performances are Thursday through Saturday nights, August 3, 4, 5 and 10, 11,
12, at 7:30 P.M. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Admission for adult groups of 20+ is $7.50 each. Special reserved seating at
$25 per person (pre-paid only) is also available. Tickets may be bought
or reserved in advance through the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce at
931-762-4911. Since the theater seating capacity is 1,265, tickets may also be
purchased at the door as available. The roles of Lawrence County?s earliest
settlers are played by 55 local citizens. Events from Crockett?s life include
his fiery feud with local politician Mac Buchanan; his witty and successful
first foray into the political arena; and the tragic loss of his mills and
distillery in a flood, precipitating his move from Middle Tennessee toward the
west and ultimately to Texas and the Alamo. Gentleman was first produced
for the Bicentennial in 1976 and continued being performed outdoors at David
Crockett State Park until 1986. In one year alone, over 6,000 visitors from 32
states and 5 foreign countries came to the park to view the play. SMALL
