Pulaski Electric System Loses Power On Saturday
Posted on July 01, 2006

Most of Giles County was affected by a power outage Saturday. According to Wes Kelly, Chief Marketing Officer for Pulaski Electric System, at approximately 10:30 this morning, a fault on the TVA transmission line that feeds the Pulaski Electric System caused an outage that affected most of Giles County. Power was restored between 11:45am and 12-noon.

The Tennessee Valley Authority?s transmission line from Lawrence County serves as the primary connection point that ties PES?s electrical distribution system to the TVA power grid. A fault 13.6 miles west of Pulaski resulted in a total outage for the Pulaski Electric System.

Unfortunately, TVA?s backup feed from Lincoln County did not pickup automatically, but after further work by TVA technicians, they were able to energize the alternate connection and PES is now being fed using the Lincoln County transmission feed.

According to Kelly, TVA crews found the source of outage late this afternoon. A cross-arm broke in the middle of a corn field, about four miles west of Pulaski. Kelly says that crews will work throughout the weekend to make the repair and it should be “seamless” meaning that customers should not experience another loss of power while repairs are made.

Pulaski Electric System will continue to monitor this situation and work closely with TVA to further investigate the cause of the outage and the restoration process. More information will be available as PES learns more from TVA about the cause of this unfortunate event.
