A Murfreesboro man with local ties was reportedly popping a wheelie on his motorcycle when it struck a pickup truck, killing him Thursday night.
Motorcyclist John Erin Stanford, 30, of Nugget Court died at the scene on Memorial Boulevard near Broadmoor Boulevard, police said.

Sgt. Sam Campbell said because the motorcycle’s headlight was pointed up, the black motorcycle couldn’t be seen by pickup driver Peter E. Pellicano, age 31, of Woodbury. The truck turned into the motorcycle’s path and they collided.
Pellicano was treated for injuries at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Murfreesboro Police officer Keith Sanders said Stanford was driving a Suzuki motorcycle on only the back wheel about 10:10 p.m. south on Memorial Boulevard. Pellicano attempted to turn from Broadmoor Boulevard onto Memorial Boulevard in his Dodge Ram truck.
Sanders reported Pellicano had been drinking earlier in the evening.
Lt. Sanders Watson said both drivers contributed to the crash.
Routine blood alcohol tests were taken from both drivers, and charges may be pending against Pellicano.
