ST. JOSEPH, Tenn. — Local law enforcement officials say an early morning altercation at a state line club resulted in an Alabama man being shot.
St. Joseph Police Chief Dennis Daniels said 47-year-old Stephen “PeeWee” Gerald Clemmons, 258 Lauderdale 398, Killen, was shot once during the altercation.
Daniels said Clemmons was taken to Crockett-Hospital, in Lawrenceburg, by Lawrence County-Ambulance and later taken by AirEvac to Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital.
A family member, said Clemmons was in stable condition at the hospital.
The family member said Clemmons was shot once in the right shoulder area and also had been beaten in the head and upper body with a baseball bat.
Daniels said one person has been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened about 12:45 a.m. Saturday.
He said 44-year-old Jeffrey Dwight “DoRit” Rogers, 215 Lauderdale 339, Killen, has been charged with assault with intent to murder and illegal possession of a firearm where alcohol is sold or served.
Rogers was taken to Lawrence County Jail in Lawrenceburg. Lawrence County officials said Rogers was later transferred to a jail in Columbia, where he is being held without bail.
Daniels said the incident happened at the EBGB Bikers Club, 91 Old Jackson Highway, St. Joseph.
EBGB stands for Eternal Brotherhood of Gentleman Bikers.
The club is just north of the Alabama-Tennessee state line.
The chief said the incident was apparently over the flying of motorcycle club colors.
Daniels said Rogers was arrested at the club.
The chief said the investigation is ongoing, and authorities also are looking for Talia Michelle Hensley as a person of interest.
Anyone knowing Hensley’s whereabouts is asked to contact Lawrence County Central Dispatching at (931) 762-0450 and ask for Daniels.
