Posted on October 19, 2006

The annual Lawrence County Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will take place Saturday, October 28, 2006.
Household hazardous waste will be accepted at the Lawrence County Waste Transfer Station on Baler Drive in Lawrenceburg from 8 am to noon that day. There is no charge to participate.
The event is sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
Typical items to dispose of include cleaning fluids, pesticides, batteries, mercury thermometers and thermostats, swimming pool chemicals, paints and thinners and automotive fluids. Also accepted are fluorescent bulbs and electronics such as televisions, computer monitors, keyboards, computer mouse devices and computer processing units. Console televisions must be dismantled.
Items not accepted include microwave ovens, ammunition, explosives, and medical waste.
When transporting materials to the site, place containers in sturdy boxes lined with newspaper to prevent spills. Materials should be transported in the trunk of a car or back of a truck, and placed away from children and pets. Materials should be kept in the original container whenever possible. If not, place it in a plastic jug with a secure lid and label the contents.
The mobile collection service is open to any Tennessee resident. The program is limited to households. Businesses, institutions, schools and agri-business operations may not use the service.
