SUMMERTOWN – The Summertown Lady Eagles and Eagles tagged the Mt. Pleasant
Lady Tigers and Tigers with a pair of District 12-A losses in basketball
action here Friday night.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Eagles would use their pressure defense
to a 7-0 lead in the first minute of play and never looked back.
Summertown would lead 11-0 before the Lady Tigers would score their
first point, and held a 28-3 lead at the end of the first period.
Despite the fact that the Lady Eagles reserves saw the majority of
playing time the rest of the way, the Lady Tigers would not score in
the second or third periods, as the Lady Eagles held a 43-3 lead at
the half and a 52-3 lead at the end of the third period. The Lady
Tigers would finally tally another basket at the 7:35 mark of the
fourth period, as the Lady Eagles cruised to the win by a final score
of 67-9.

The boys’ game would be closer, as the Tigers took an early lead,
only to have the Eagles’ Wes Long sink a trey at the buzzer to knot
the score at 8-8 at the end of the first period. The second
period would be where the game was decided, as the Eagles opened the
period with a 17-0 run, to lead 25-8 at the 3:58 mark of the second
period. The Tigers would cut the lead to 28-14 at the
intermission. The Eagles would open the second half with a
full-court press that gave the Tigers fits and resulted in numerous
turnovers. However, the Eagles were unable to capitalize on these,
as the Tigers would have a 11-9 scoring advantage in the third
period, cutting the lead to 37-25 by the end of the third. In the
final period, the Eagles would again take the upper hand, outscoring
the Tigers 21-17 to take the win by a final score of 58-42.
