Agenda Set For January County Commission Meeting
Posted on January 02, 2007

County Commissioners will have some big issues to consider at the January 23rd
meeting. At the Agenda Meeting held last night, resolutions included the West
Point water project, a tobacco use policy, and another shot at passing the wheel
tax in lieu of higher property taxes.
The City of Loretto has applied for a grant to repair the water lines in West
Point, which could bring in $300,000, but the county will have to match the grant
with almost 45 thousand dollars.
Also on the agenda will be a readoption of a resolution that prohibits any tobacco
use from any county owned buildings. The resolution will also require that any
tobacco users stay at least 50 ft. from any entrance.
Commissioner Chris Jackson added to the agenda once again a resolution that will
drop the recently added 27 cent tax hike, and add an additional $35 on the wheel
tax, to take effect on July 1, 2007. The resolution will also hold a drop-dead
date for the additional wheel tax for two years from beginning.
The Commission will meet for its regular bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 23
at 5:00 at the courthouse.

There will also be a meeting with the fire marshall today (Wednesday) at 11:00
a.m. at the downstairs courtroom, so that the necessary inspections may be made to
okay the property for the temporary jail on Baler Drive.
