Lawrence County Community Clubs will soon begin competing for cash prizes through a new litter collection contest.

All community clubs and their supporters are reminded that February 1 marks the start of the litter pickup contest for the first half of 2007.

Litter may be taken to the Lawrence County Solid Waste Transfer Station during regular business hours Monday through Saturday. Those who participate in the contest are reminded to declare which club they are supporting when delivering litter to the transfer station.

Saturday, April 28 will be the final turn-in date in order for litter to be counted toward a community club?s totals.

Each participating club receives a cash prize based on its collection total. Prizes for the litter pickup contest will be as follows:

First Place $250
Second Place $200
Third Place $150
Fourth Place $100
All Others $50

Funding for the program comes from the Litter Grant program through the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation.
