| “Bomb Threat Call Came From Pay Phone in Loretto”, Sheriff Says Posted on March 31, 2007 The Lawrence County courthouse was ordered closed for nearly three hours yesterday after a bomb threat. Sheriff Kenny Taylor said the bomb threat was received about 7:20 Friday morning and was traced by the phone company to a pay phone in Loretto. Sheriff Taylor said he thinks the threat was an attempt to try and stop a parole hearing. He said the threat specifically asked that inmates in the jail be released. Sheriff Taylor said that thinks an escape may have been planned. The inmates in the jail were not evacuated during the bomb scare. The special operations unit of the Tennessee Highway patrol and local officials checked the facility and there were no signs of a bomb and the courthouse reopened shortly after eleven on Friday. Court cases went on as planned. The sheriff?s department says it does have a suspect in the case. |
