Fred Thompson says he has lymphoma
Posted on April 11, 2007

WASHINGTON (AP) – Former Tennessee Senator and Lawrenceburg native Fred Thompson says he
has lymphoma — a form of cancer.
Thompson is weighing a run for president.
In an interview with Fox News, Thompson said he has
non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but has shown no symptoms and says the
diagnosis shouldn’t affect his life expectancy.
The 64-year-old Thompson served the last two years of Al Gore’s
term in the Senate, after Gore was tapped as vice president by
former President Bill Clinton. Voters then elected Thompson — a
Republican — to his own six-year term, but he chose not to run
again in 2002.
The former senator is an actor who has played many roles,
including president of the United States, director of the C-I-A, an
admiral and currently, a tough district attorney on N-B-C’s “Law &
Order.”
