Second Teen Sentenced In Brutal Lawrenceburg Murder

Nineteen year old Corey Allen Byrd of Lawrenceburg has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role in the brutal murder and robbery of 52-year old Jerry Morgan in January of last year.
Bryd avoided trial by entering a guilty plea on Thursday. His trial was schedudled to begin on Friday. Byrd got a 25 year sentence for the murder and 20 years for the robbery. The sentences will be served consecutively.
Earlier this year, Bobby D’Shane Reynolds received a sentence of 61 years in prison for the same crime after he pled guilty.
Reynonds and Bryd beat Morgan with a hammer on January 6, 2006 at his home on Fred Street, two blocks south of the Lawrenceburg Square. Morgan died a few weeks later from the injuries.
Both Byrd and Reynolds were only 18 at the time of the murder.
