Former Mayor Ivan Johnson Dies From Heart Attack Sunday Morning

Former longtime Lawrenceburg Mayor Ivan Johnston has died from a sudden heart attack. Family and friends of Johnston said he had been improving from recent health problems that had him hospitalized several times in recent months. He died on Sunday morning.
He was 80 years old.
Johnston was first elected Mayor in the mid 1967 and served several terms, often running unopposed until 1992. Johnston owned and operated Johnston’s Department Store on the square for many years.
Prior to that he was the manager of the local Parks Belk when it was located on the square.
He leaves his wife Phyliss, three daughters and a son. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at two p.m. at Pettus Turnbow Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday evening.
