Lawrenceburg Manufacturing Plant Destroyed By Fire
Posted on July 23, 2007

Fire has destroyed a Lawrenceburg industry. Prime Seating, a manufacturer of motel and hotel furniture and was located on Highway 64 just east of Gimlet Road.
The company employed 18 persons. The metal building was approximately 20,000 square feet and owned by T.J. Hughes and family.
Assistant Lawrenceburg Fire chief Steve Carter said the building was half way involved in flames where firemen arrived on the scene around 11:20 Sunday night.
?It was full of flames and smoke when we got here. We had trouble getting into the building because the doors were locked.? Firemen had to break their way inside to begin battling the blaze.
?Once we gained entry there was just so much inside the building it was hard to put out,? Carter said.
Firemen said there was a lot of wood, foam rubber, and leather that was used in the manufacture of the furniture inside the building making it one of the toughest fires they had fought fought in years.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
