Official City Release On Thompson Visit
Posted on September 11, 2007
Presidential Candidate Fred Thompson and his wife Jeri will arrive in Lawrenceburg for a homecoming event Saturday, September 15, on the Square. The son of Ruth and Fletcher Thompson, Fred grew up in Lawrenceburg, where he says he learned ?the importance of family, hard work, faith, and education.? He attended Lawrence County High School and the First Street Church of Christ.
Organizers expect and encourage a huge local turnout for the hometown son. There will be food and entertainment throughout the day on the Square, and Thompson plans a twilight presentation. Media and TV cameras will be there to record the event, and busloads of supporters from across the region are expected.
Lawrenceburg Mayor Keith Durham encourages residents to be ready for lots of visitors and traffic in the area. The Lawrenceburg Police and Fire Departments are prepared for crowd management, and shuttle service is being arranged. ?This is a great opportunity to show visitors all the positive aspects of life in Lawrenceburg,? says Durham. ?Our historic square, growing community, and friendly people project a ?Modern Mayberry? atmosphere. Fred Thompson always attributes part of his success to his Lawrenceburg roots, and we want the world to know that Lawrenceburg is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Bring your lawn chairs and your family, and come enjoy this history-making event.?
