Blood Drive Honors Mother and Daughter In Law Battling Cancer
Posted on September 25, 2007

Carlene Jent was diagnosed with synovial carcinoma this summer.
Synovial carcinoma is a rare soft tissue tumor. She’s undergone surgery
and is now getting radiation treatments.

“My father died on Father’s Day of bone cancer. My husband died 16 years
ago of leukemia. My daughter-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer at
the beginning of year. We take things one day at a time,” says Carlene
Jent.

Carlene’s daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Jent, recently completed
chemotherapy and is on the road to recovery.

“Everything is good right now. I found my knot at age 37, and I did
what the doctor told me to do,” says Carol Ann. “I was fortunate not to
have to have blood, but I saw a lot of cancer patients who had to get
platelets. It scared me to think what if there wasn’t blood available?”

Cancer patients can require up to 100 units of red blood cells and 50
units of platelets throughout their course of treatment.

You can help by donating blood in honor of Carlene and Carol Ann Jent on
Thursday, Oct. 4, from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Summertown Saddle
& Bridle Club located on Highway 20 in Summertown. For more information
on blood donation, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.

Both Jent women are proud to support an American Red Cross blood drive.

“It’s an honor, but I sometimes feel like there are other people that
may be more deserving than me,” says Carlene.

“I’m personally a 4-gallon blood donor and one of the first questions I
asked (the doctor) was when I can give blood again,” says Carol Ann.
