Summertown Splits With Spring Hill

SUMMERTOWN – The Summertown Lady Eagles and Spring Hill Raiders posted victories
here Tuesday night, in basketball action between the two schools.
In the opener, the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 10-0 lead on multiple baskets by
Haley Lovett and Paige Smith, and looked to be poised to have an easy night.
Summertown led 14-2 at the end of the first period and would extend their lead to
27-7 by halftime.
However, the second half would be another story, as the Lady Raiders scored 2 quick
baskets in the opening minute of the third period and soon cut the Lady Eagles’ lead
to 10. Spring Hill would outscore the hosts 17-7 in the third period, and cut the
Summertown lead to 34-24 by the end of the third. In the final period, the
visitors would continue to whittle the lead, cutting it as close as 5 (38-33) with
2:20 remaining in the game, but the Lady Eagles would take the win by a final score
of 42-35.
Summertown’s offense was paced by Sara Dickey with 18 points, Haley Lovett with 8 (1
trey), Paige Smith with 8, followed by Kayla Clark and Adeanna Adams with 2 each.
Spring Hill was led by Atlanta Westbrook with 14 points, Amanda Green with 8,
Ashton Rial (1 trey) and Lindsey Cook with 5 each and Natrese McCaster with 3.
The boys’ game would be a battle from beginning to end, with neither team able to
build a comfortable lead thru the entire game. Summertown would take an early 4-0
lead, but Spring Hill would hold a 14-10 lead by the end of the first period. The
Raiders would open the second period with a trey and a basket to take a 19-10 lead,
but the Eagles would make a 6-0 run of their own on baskets by Logan Harville, Chris
Carrington and Wes Long, to cut the lead back to 19-16.
Spring Hill would maintain a 4-6 point lead thru the remainder of the second period,
but the Eagles would cut it to 29-27 at the half with a last-second basket by Nick
Nance.
The Eagles would take the upper hand in the third period, taking the lead on a
3-pointer by Nance with 1:00 to play in the third, to give the Eagles a 37-35 lead,
which was followed by a steal and a lay-up by Harville to put Summertown ahead 39-35
at the end of the third. The fourth period would continue the see-saw battle,
with neither team able to build more than a 4-point lead. Spring Hill would knot
the score at 48-48 with 26 seconds remaining, but the Eagles were unable to score
before time expired, forcing an overtime period.
In the overtime, Spring Hill got a quick basket to go up 50-48 with 2:48 to play in
the overtime, but neither team would score again, giving the Raiders the victory.
Summertown was led by Nick Nance with 14 points (2 treys), Logan Harville with 8,
Wes Long and Chris Carrington with 7 each, Clint Gobbell with 5, Bubba Clifton with
3 and Frank Campbell with 2. Spring Hill was led by Montae Brown with 20 points
(3 treys), DeAngelo Williams with 11, Alphonso Carter and Ephraim Julius with 6
each, Jerome Tucker with 5 and Randy Stevens with 2.
The Lady Eagles and Eagles return to action on Friday, November 30th as they travel
to Lewis County. Game time is 6:00 PM.
