Local Jobless Rate Climbs To 8.7 Percent

Lawrence County’s uemployment rate remains high. The latest figures released by the state show the local jobless rate is 8.7 percent, higher than the state and national rates. Only Pickett, Marshall and Clay counties had higher unemployment rates than Lawrence. Neighboring Maury , Lewis, and Wayne Counties were also among the county’s with the highest unemployment rates in Tennessee. Giles County had a jobless rate of 8.1 percent. The state’s jobless rate increased in 76 of the 95 counties. Statewide the jobless rate was 5.3 percent up from 4.7 in November.
