City Commission Votes Unimously To Give Themselves an Extra 16 Months In Office
Posted on February 14, 2008

It was unanimous, the Lawrenceburg City Commission today voted to amend the city charter, starting the process of giving themselves 16 extra months in office. The commission says the move will save the city money by moving city elections to be held the same time as federal and state elections.
Voting to give themselves 16 more months in office were Mayor Keith Durham, and Commissioners Jerry Moore, Commissioner Larry ?Butch? Morrow and Commissioner Robin Williams. The commission also voted to place Ronald Fox on the City Commission to serve out the term of the late Buford Goolsby plus the extra 16 months.
The original vote to see who to place on the commissioner was held with a secret ballot even though one Commissioner did sign his name to his ballot. Mayor Keith Durham handed out ballots and the Commissioners were asked to select their first choice and second choice or to have an election. Fox got three votes during the secret voting, and Steve Cone received two, Bert Spearman and Terry Beecham received one vote each.
After that the mayor read the results and Fox’s name was put in nomination, it was seconded and then he was placed on the commission.
