$45K Collected In Past Two Weeks On Late Solid Waste Fees
Posted on April 14, 2008

Approximately $45,000 in delinquent solid waste disposal fees has been collected in the last two weeks in Lawrence County as part of a grace period before legal action commences against those past due accounts.

More than 6,000 letters were issued in late March and early April to residential and commercial account holders with delinquent solid waste disposal fees for the years 2001 through 2006. According to County Attorney Charlie Holt, these letters offered a final opportunity to pay delinquent fees before additional fines are assessed as part of the legal process.

As of Monday, April 14, the Lawrence County Office of Accounts and Budgets reported that approximately $45,000 in delinquent fees had been collected.

Fees which are not paid by April 30, 2008 will be subject to legal action through the Circuit Court of Lawrence County. Once the suits have been filed, the names of delinquent account holders will become public record and will be posted on the county?s web page.

Residents or businesses which receive letters regarding delinquent accounts should contact the Office of Accounts and Budgets at 766-1581 extension 109 or 110 to make payment arrangements.
