| DUI Now Even Tougher In Tennessee Posted on May 31, 2008 The penalty for drunk driving in Tennessee is getting tougher. Governor Phil Bredesen has signed a measure into law that requires all individuals convicted of drunken driving to serve at least 48 hours in jail. Prior to this weeks change, DUI offenders less than 21 years of age had to spend at least 48 hours in jail. Now, all DUI offenders, regardless of age, must serve at least 48 hours in jail. The new law also requires probation offices or the county official who administers the state litter removal grant, rather than sheriffs, to supervise litter removal performed as part of the punishment for committing DUI. |
