Flu Season Stretches Into April

Tennessee health officials say the slow
flu season has continued into spring and remains widespread
throughout the state.
Department of Health spokeswoman Shelley Walker says there are
77 laboratory-confirmed cases of the flu since the season began in
the early fall. At this time last year, there were 128
lab-confirmed cases.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have categorized
the state’s flu season as widespread — when activity is scattered.
Infectious disease experts estimated the number of flu cases
would peak in March and stretch well into April. February often is
the month with the highest number of flu cases.
WVLT-TV reports that Covenant Baptist Academy in Monroe County
has closed until Monday because 20 percent of students have the
flu, pink eye or strep throat.
