There’s a war on the manufacture of meth-amphetemene being waged in Lawrence County and the good guys appear to be winning.
The homemade drug that’s often cooked in local kitchens and makeshift, often dangerous labs, is being found all over Lawrence County.
But Lawrence County is no different than any other Middle Tennessee County when it comes to the number of illegal meth labs and meth usage, officials say.
But they point out undercover agents, surveilence and old fashioned hard work are allowing lawmen to find more labs than other counties.
So far this year, thirty four meth labs have been discovered, disabled and eventually destroyed.
There’s little doubt that the Drug Division of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department is aggressive in their pursuit of meth cookers.
“Our drug division is ‘in tune’ with what’s going on in the drug culture, if you will,” said Chief Deputy Terry Beecham.
“And they’re busting their humps trying to find the meth labs and doing all they can to make our county meth free.”
Beecham said the shift officers are also helping out in the fight against drugs.
“They stay in constant contact with our drug division and alert them to any suspicious activity,” said Beecham.
In the past week, good police work led to the discovery of five more meth labs.
