Posted on July 10, 2009

Local law enforcement agencies recently took part in Operation FALCON 2009, the acronym for Federal and Local Cops Organized Nationally.

The fugitive apprehension effort soared into the region June 1 and by the time the operation was over 624 fugitives had been apprehended and 801 warrants cleared. Over 350 officers from 64 different agencies participated in the operation in Middle Tennessee.

Operation FALCON 2009, the sixth in the series of U.S. Marshals Service-led fugitive apprehension initiatives, partnered Deputy U.S. Marshals with local police, sheriffs, state troopers and other federal agencies, each dedicating manpower and resources to the goal of removing as many violent offenders from our streets and communities as possible while clearing backlogged warrants from law enforcement?s files.

Arrests in the Middle District of Tennessee targeted fugitives wanted for crimes of violence, sex offenders, and narcotics violations. Participating agencies were encouraged to identify wanted persons within their communities, who were then targeted by assigned arrest teams within each geographical area.

?It is a privilege to watch 64 agencies work together seamlessly as a team to bring fugitive felons to justice? said Middle Tennessee U.S. Marshal Denny King. ?FALCON has changed the entire landscape when it comes to mustering forces to capture large numbers of criminal offenders. Apprehending almost 3,000 fugitives in these operations here in the past four years is a major accomplishment.?

Area agencies contributing to Operation FALCON 2009 include the sheriffs departments in Giles, Lawrence, Marshal and Maury Counties and the Pulaski Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol.
