The 2009 football season opens Friday night when the
Wildcats of Lawrence County High School hosts Columbia Central at Hendrix-Staggs
stadium in Lawrenceburg. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM.

This will be the first match-up in the new realigned District 8-AAA. The teams have
not met since 2004 when Columbia crushed Lawrence County 55-8. LCHS jumped out to a
8-0 lead before Columbia scored 55 unanswered points.

“We have got to come out and play physical and set the tone for this game,” said
Wildcat head coach David Marston. “We also have to take care of the ball and not
give up the big plays on defense.”

Lawrence County will be led by senior quarterback Logan Taylor and senior fullback
Harry Douglass. Taylor completed 53% of his passes for 1,023 yards and 9
touchdowns. Douglass gained 872 yards and scored 4 touchdowns.

Columbia is trying to improve on their 2-8 record from last year. Senior Zach Tate
will lead his team from the quarterback position. Tate threw for 844 yards and 4
touchdowns last year. Tra’Darius Goff, a junior tailback, rushed for 309 yards last
season and scored 12 touchdowns. Bryant Belew is their top returning receiver. He
caught 24 passes for 396 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Columbia’s head coach is Vance Belew who is starting his 12th season at the helm.
