Wildcats Drop Close One To Columbia Lions

By Stanley Wilson

The Lawrence County football team lost a tough game last night in the season opener
to Columbia 21 to 13.

Trailing 14-0 in the second quarter, the Wildcats scored twice on a Logan Taylor
29-yard pass to Rusty Cummings and on a 1 yard run by Trent Garland. They missed
the second extra point try and trailed at the half 14-13.

After a scoreless third quarter Columbia’s Tra’Darius Goff scored on a 6 yard run
to put the Lions ahead 21-13 with 5:42 to play. Lawrence County got the ball back
late in the game and Taylor connected with Garland for a pass to the Columbia
20-yardline with six seconds on the clock. Taylor then rolled to his left on the
next play, but could not find anyone open. He then tucked the ball in and made a
gallant run, but he was stopped 4 yards from the goal line.

The Wildcats go on the road next week to play Giles County in the “Cowbell Game”.
